Powering the Circular Economy at Scale

Our Story

Building a Circular Future

Encina Development Group was founded in 2016 by David Schwedel with the objective of developing commercially scalable technologies capable of converting carbon-based refuse and waste materials into valuable chemical products.

As market conditions evolved and the global demand for circular solutions accelerated, the Company refined its strategic focus in 2019 toward end-of-life plastics. Since then, Encina has continued to advance its technology, engineering, and commercial strategy, evolving into a global developer of circular chemical infrastructure projects.

Today, Encina is developing world-scale facilities designed to convert end-of-life plastics into circular chemical feedstocks for the global petrochemical industry.

2022

Scaling for Commercial Demand

As discussions with global chemical producers continued, customer demand exceeded the capacity originally contemplated for the Pennsylvania project. Working closely with customers and strategic partners, Encina re-evaluated the optimal size, configuration, and location of its first commercial facility.
The Company ultimately determined that larger, world-scale facilities located on the U.S. Gulf Coast would better serve customer requirements by providing direct access to one of the world’s largest integrated petrochemical complexes, extensive infrastructure, utilities, transportation networks, and a highly skilled industrial workforce.

Strategic Partnerships & Global Growth

As Encina continued advancing its commercial projects, the Company strengthened relationships with leading global chemical companies and expanded its international development activities.

A significant milestone was the execution of a strategic collaboration agreement with BASF, one of the world’s largest chemical companies. The collaboration combines Encina’s capabilities with BASF’s global technical, engineering, procurement, and commercial expertise to support the development of Encina’s commercial-scale circular

chemical facilities. The agreement also establishes a framework for BASF to participate as a strategic equity partner at the project level, reflecting a shared commitment to accelerating the commercialization of circular chemical infrastructure.

During this period, Encina also expanded internationally through strategic initiatives in the Middle East, laying the foundation for future global project development.
